Top of page Thoughts on Cameras

In the nineties the appearance of digital cameras heralded the end for cameras that used light sensitive paper to record images. Films no longer needed to be sent away to be developed. The dark room was closed. The dark room red light switched off for the last time.

Still digital cameras and camcorders take an increasing share of new camera purchases. They are simple, fast and convenient. Images and videos can be transferred onto a computer and processed using image editing software. Images in digital forms can be used in presentation software eliminating the need for 35mm slides and slide projectors with hot intense light bulbs that were very sensitive to the slightest mishandling.

Cameras can write to removable disk storage media that can also. These media can be accessed by computers. This removed an early constraint on the number of images that can be taken.
